In the case of lightning discharges or direct lightning strikes, our lightning current arresters as combined lightning current and surge arresters provide optimum protection for your installation. In the main distribution of low-voltage systems, our powerful lightning current arresters also safely discharge high lightning currents to ground.
Every type 1 lightning current arrester fulfills the high requirements in terms of discharge capacity. At the same time, it is also a type 2 surge protective device (SPD). The fact that a type 1 lightning current arrester satisfies test class II is redundant information and does not constitute an additional qualification. Therefore, such protective devices are called combined lightning current and surge arresters (SPD type 1+2). A combined lightning current and surge arrester is a protective device that fulfills both test classes.
The type 1+2 special combined lightning current and surge arrester differs fundamentally from the type 1+2 version. This is because the type 1+2 special combined lightning current and surge arrester contains two independent protective devices that are connected in parallel in a very small space. The voltage-switching spark gap (SPD type 1+2) works ideally in combination with a voltage-limiting varistor (SPD type 2). In this combination, two autonomous protective devices in one compact block ensure optimum response behavior, optimal system protection, and a long service life for the components.
The FLT-MB type 1+2+3 lightning current and surge arresters are based on our new spark gap technology. The portfolio includes circuit versions for a discharge capacity of 12.5 kA and 25 kA.
The FLT-MB devices with 25 kA protect against lightning currents of lightning protection level I/II. The FLT-MB with 12.5 kA discharge capacity is sufficient for installations in lightning protection level III/IV.
What’s special about the type 1+2+3 combined lightning current and surge arresters is that they are capable of handling multiple lightning pulses in an overall width of just 72 mm. The space-saving design of just four HP results in easy installation and flexible installation options in the control cabinet.
The robust type 1+2 lightning current arresters feature a rated voltage of 800 V AC and a discharge capacity of 35 kA per channel, making them ideal for harsh industrial environments. The resilient housing design, shock values of 25g, and vibration resistance of 5g make these type 1+2 combined lightning current and surge arresters the ideal choice for wind turbine generators, for example. The multi-stage status indicator even enables you to detect pre-existing damage caused by surge voltage events.
